Dr. Thomas Scavelli is the Founder and Director of Garden State Veterinary Specialists. He is a 1982 graduate of The New York State College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University. Following graduation, Dr. Scavelli completed a one year rotating internship and 3 year surgical residency program at The Animal Medical Center in New York City. He became a Diplomate of The American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1987 and headed a surgical service at The Animal Medical Center for 6 years following his surgical residency. He established a surgical referral practice (Veterinary Surgical Specialists) in 1990, which evolved into Garden State Veterinary Specialists in 1994. He is licensed by the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for the administration of I-131 (radioactive iodine) to treat hyperthyroidism in cats. Dr. Scavelli’s special interests are orthopedic disorders and surgical oncology. He has lectured numerous times both nationally and internationally. In addition, Dr. Scavelli has authored multiple publications, including textbook chapters and journal articles centered around small animal surgery.
